Transportation

It's easy to get around vancouver by public transit.

The main buses for visitors to UBC is the 99 express. Take it from the bus loop east and transfer to downtown, or direct to Granville, Main St. or Commercial Drive.

Dining

  • Raincity grill, $$$, downtown near Denman and Davie, quality seafood in West Coast style
  • Sun Sui Wah, $$$, banquest chinese, seafood. On main near 24th. Go during with a group, during Alaskan King Crab season. sun sui wah
  • Tanpopo, $$, quality all you can east sushi, also near Denman and Davie

Downtown neighborhoods

  • Yaletown (Mainland near Davie) for fancy dinner and drinks. Try Earl's or George.
  • Gastown for edgier drinks.
  • Granville street. Clubs for the young people. (This is downtown unlike Granville island, which is under the bridge)

Near UBC

There are lots of options on, or just off campus.

The nearest neighborhood is Point Grey.

The main area between downtown and UBC is Kitsalano.

Tourism

  • Stanley Park You can walk around it, (leisurely 3 hours), or
    • Rent bikes at Denman and Georgia and bike around
  • Granville Island
  • Grouse Grind An athletic hike (1 hour +) with a great view and activities at the top. Take the Gondola down.
    • Getting There: From UBC take the 4 or 44 all the way to the seabus, take the seabus across the water, then take the 236 to Grouse mountain (1.5 hr).
  • Kits Beach
    • people watching beach. Also has a large outdoor swimming pool ($5). You can dine with a view at watermark or just get sushi from the corner and picnic on the beach.
  • Kayak from Jericho Sailing club Rental. You may see Harbor Seals.
